An internal inception meeting was organized on July 13, 2010 at nec-CPS wherein the frameworks of the project, activities foreseen and expected outcomes were discussed. In the meeting Prof. Ashutosh Shukla of nec summarized on the genesis of the research project, detailed the responsibilities of each partner institution, highlighted the aims of project and discussed the project activities and their sequences, study sites, research design, methodology, the expected outcomes and their relevance in the context of urbanization, climate change and their linkages to water scarcity.
The initial activity plan for the activities to be completed in the short, medium and long term time frame has been prepared. The 1st year of the project is focused on in-depth information gathering, where the emphasis will be on detailed baseline data collection through intensive literature review, map study and simultaneous field visits thereby finalizing the study sites. Second year onwards the research will focus on Participatory learning dialogue involving project team, multiple stakeholders and local communities; documentation of the changing access of peri-urban residents to water as a consequence of urbanization and climate change and adaptation strategies employed by water users thereby conducting capacity building activities for the local communities and municipal corporation officials and planning for creating resilience through institutional support.
