WWF hands over Terai Arc Landscape Implementation Plan to HMGN
WWF handed over the Terai Arc Landscape Implementation Plan (2004-2014) to the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation at a ceremony on 16 February 2006.
The Terai Arc Landscape Implementation Plan is an overall framework for implementation to translate the broader strategies of TAL Nepal Strategic Plan into actions. It focuses on 5 thematic areas: (1) Governance (2) Sustainable Forest Management (3) Species and Ecosystem Conservation (4) Soil Conservation and Churia Watershed Conservation and (5) Sustainable Livelihoods.
The Implementation Plan was prepared by a core team lead by the Chief of Planning and Human Resources Division/MFSC. It included representatives from other government agencies (DoF, DNPWC), major donors (USAID, SNV, DFID) and development partners (UNDP, LFP, BISEP-ST and WWF Nepal Program) working in the biodiversity sector and particularly active in the Terai Arc Landscape.
The link of the plan with a financial model makes the TAL Implementation Plan different than other conventional long term implementation plans. The latter was designed with the support of IBM Business Consulting Services, US, and provides information on the financial resources required to implement the plan and its distribution over time and geographical coverage. The model estimates US$ 184.9 million will be required to operationalize the complete TAL Strategic Plan. It also depicts gaps and prioritizes activities across the landscape, which will help projects and donors to focus their investments in critical activities to maximize conservation and sustainable livelihoods outputs.
