DFID to help Nepal attract $30m in carbon finance

DFID recently launched a three-year plan that will help Nepal build a lasting peace and address the impact of the global economic downturn. The £172m package, among other things, includes plan to tackle climate change and continue the community forestry programme in Nepal.

International Development Minister of UK, Mike Foster,  launching of DFID Country Business Plan for Nepal on 2 April 2009As outlined in the plan, DFID will help Nepal government design and implement its climate change National Adaptation Plan of Action (NAPA). DFID will also explore expanding its forestry work into a national programme with other donors, which could include more market-orientated sustainable forest enterprises, address illegal logging, and attract carbon finance. DFID hopes to attract $30 million in carbon finance during this period.
