Resource and Environment conservation Society (RES-Nepal) in support of Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program (TRPAP) conducted a feasibility study on " Red Panda habitat eco-trail" in Cholangpati Thulosyabru area of Langtang National Park. The National Park represents the good spectrum of vegetation type along the altitude range between 1000 m and 7245 m.
The main objectives of the study were to assess and explore the potentialities of Thulosyabru-Cholangpati area and develop Red Panda Eco Trail as additional tourism products of the site that ensure conservation of its habitat and benefit the local community.
The study carried out the faunal assessment associated with the Red Panda and also identified its possible habitats. Likewise the study also focused on assessment of the status and distribution of Red Panda and existing and possible threats pattern. The methodology included desk review, preparatory visits and meetings with the concerned authority for the study. A preliminary field visit was conducted for observation.
The assessment of habitat and its condition were assessed against the checklists prepared by the study team. The team traced the movement and status of Red Panda in Cholangpati Thulosyabru area of Langtang National Park. The study also examined the possible socio-economic and environmental consequences of the proposed eco-trail in the area and recommended a draft scheme for eco-trail as a model for eco-tourism and also a mechanism in which visitors could get maximum satisfaction.
