| Abstract | A field survey was conducted in Nepal from 28 March to 19 April 2000 to quantify the extent of dieback damages of Dalbergia sissoo in plantations and in natural stands. In the western region, D. sissoo plantations of various sizes, age, type of sites and localities were affected by the disease. A total of 19% of trees on private lands was dying while 13% had died. In the eastern region, 16.58% of D. sissoo trees in government and community managed stands were affected by the disease, and 2.99% of the standing trees were dead. A total of 7.03% of trees on private lands was dying while 9.82% had died. It is concluded that the dieback of D. sissoo is widespread in the terai region of Nepal. It is causing much economic loss and an unfavourable environment for tree growers. |
