Abstract

The tropical belt embraces about ten percent of the total fungi which occur as pathogens on wild and cultivated plants in Nepal. The most frequent genera belong to Aphyllophorales, Uredinales, Ustilaginales and Fungi Imperfecti. Seventeen polypores out of 185 species and about 22 species of rusts out of nearly 200 species are found to infect various tree species. Other groups, viz., Mastigomycotina, Zygomycotina and Ascomycotina have not been found to be well represented. This paper throws light on tropical mycodemography, especially pathogenic fungi on wild tree species in Nepal.
