Development of non-timber forest products is discussed in relation to Agenda 21 of the United Nations. Particular reference is made to the work of Appropriate Technology International and to a programme for collection and processing of jatamansi ( Nardostachys grandiflora ) oil in Nepal. This essential oil is used in traditional medicines, cosmetics and flavoured tobacco.
