Abstract

This paper assesses progress towards gender equality and rural poverty reduction in South Asia through women's control over land and productive resources, and identifies a few key policy options in mainstreaming gender in development programmes to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Project experiences in the fields of aquaculture and homestead cultivation in Bangladesh, land and poverty reduction in India, and forests and livestock in Nepal, are reviewed.
