Abstract

A description is given of research into natural forest silviculture and management since 1984. Using data from this research programme, single tree biomass tables have been developed for Schima wallichii, Castanopsis indica, Castanopsis tribuloides, Quercus glauca , and other miscellaneous species using a transformed linear regression. A fit value (r2) of 90% or above was obtained for most of the relationships. It is expected that these biomass tables will enable forest managers (including Forest User Groups) to make better estimates of growth and yield from their forests, especially in young coppice-origin Schima-Castanopsis forest.
