Transforming Nepal's Terai Forest Governance: A Policy Perspective
There is almost a consensus that Nepal's Terai forests, which comprise some of the last remaining natural forest reserves in Asia, suffer from the problem of "bad governance". The problem of Terai Forest governance sits oddly with the widely hailed success of Community Forestry (CF) in the hills. Despite second generation issues related to equity and inclusion, community forestry in the hills is by and large considered a successful program in Nepal.

ACOFUN
Association of Collaborative Forest Users of Nepal (ACOFUN) advocates for entire users of forest i.e. close, mid and distant. Since its establishment, ACOFUN has been representing the voice of excluded users for reserving their rights on forest resources. It has been involved in several debates about policy formulations, technical forestry to realize better futures of forest. ACOFUN is the only one socially inclusive forest users network of Nepal. It has an identity as a Nepal’s most democratic civil society organization which is advocating for the rights of excluded distant users of forest. (Please go through the attachment for the details)

First general assembly of Association of Collaborative Forest Users of Nepal (ACOFUN) was organised in Birganj on 24 December 2007. Dr. A. N. Das, Regional Director of Forest, inaugurated the event. In his inaugural speech he stated that, “it is a historical event for Terai Forest Management”. He wished the success of Collaborative Forest Management.
