Background: Among the five technical institutes under Tribhuvan University, Institute of Forestry (IOF) is a well-established national academic, training, and research institute in Nepal. The mission of IOF is to develop technically sound and competent, and socially compatible human resources in the area of forestry and Natural Resource Management (NRM). Main objectives of this institute are to encourage research activities that could address the practical problems at grass root level and to develop IOF as the centre of excellence in forestry education and research. IOF is committed to address the growing need and interest of sustainable development of the nation through quality education in forestry and NRM and enhance the research activities through national and international cooperation. IOF is always delighted to increase the linkage and cooperation among the forestry and NRM related partner organizations that are actively working in Nepal. To disseminate the forestry, NRM and biodiversity management and conservation based research outputs of the national institutions and increase the organizational linkage, IOF is taking this occasion as one of the best opportunity to bring academia, scientists, researchers, policy makers and professionals together in a same ground to share their knowledge and experiences in the field of forestry and NRM.

Aim: To disseminate outputs of forestry and NRM based research and share the knowledge and ideas among wider audience including policy makers and planners.

Deadline Dates: 

  • Abstract submission: January 15, 2010 February, 10, 2010
  • Abstract approval: March 15, 2010
  • Full paper submission: May 1, 2010 (Full paper should strictly follow the format of the journal “Ban ko Janakari”, website: http://www.nepjol.info/index.php/BANKO)

Publication of conference proceedings:  As a special issue of the journal "Ban ko Janakari" or a separate conference proceedings

Registration fees: If registered by April 15, 2010, NRs. 1000.00 (general) and NRs. 500.00 (students). After the deadline, NRs. 1500.00 (general) and NRs. 650.00 (students).  Registration fee includes conference materials, breakfast, lunch and tea.

Participants and presentations: 

  • Around 100 participants (academicians, researchers, professionals, administrators, policy makers and graduate students)
  • Two key notes, around 30 oral and 20 poster presentations

Conditions for both oral and poster presenters:

  • Only the original and unpublished research papers should be submitted and presented.
  • Discussion papers, if submitted somewhere else, could be modified enough with updated and recent data/information for submission and presentation.
  • The submitted abstracts of each paper (either oral or poster presentation) will be evaluated by technical committee. Only the selected papers will be allowed for the presentation.
  • The time allocated for oral presentation is 20 minutes including discussion. Poster size must be of 34 × 46 inches.

Conference language: English will be the communicating language during the oral presentation. However, Nepali could be used in other events.

Call for papers: Interested professionals, researchers and policy makers who are dedicated in above themes are requested to send their abstracts of the paper to the conference organizing secretary by email attachment at conference2010@iof.edu.np and CC at devkotakpd@yahoo.com. You are requested to quote “oral” or “poster” presentation at the top of your abstract. Following are some important instructions while preparing the abstracts:

  • Use Microsoft World, Times New Roman font
  • Title: bold, 14 pt, UPPER case
  • Author’s name(s): bold and 12 pt
  • Author’s address(es): 10 pt, no abbreviation, if more than one author indicates address of each author numerically in superscript. Give asterisk after the name of corresponding author. Include telephone and fax number together with email address of corresponding author.
  • Text of abstract: 10 pt, no abbreviations, maximum 250 words. Scientific name of the plants should be in italics. Use standard symbols for measurement and the International System (S.I.) for units.
  • Page setup: Top, bottom and right 1" and left 1.25"
