Vacancy: Project Manager at Nepal Swiss Community Forestry Project
The Nepal Swiss Community Forestry Project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, has been in operation since 1990. Intercooperation, the implementing agency, is seeking a Project Manager for the consolidation phase of the project from July 2008 to July 2011, subject to approval of the bilateral agreement between the governments of Nepal and Switzerland.
FUNCTION:
The Project Manager will be in charge of operational management and will work under Intercooperation's Project Director who holds the overall responsibility for the project. The position is based in Kathmandu with regular visits to the districts of Dolakha, Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga.
The core tasks will be:
1. Responsive for field operations, project cycle management, fund and personnel management
2. Coordinate, guide and coach a project team of 25 staff members; liaise with the Project Director, Project Advisers and consultants
3. Coordinate with government and non-government project partners
4. Ensure achievement of project outcomes on forest governance, sustainable forest management, livelihoods and linkages with local government.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Relevant Masters degree, preferably in the field of Natural Resources Management
• At least 10 years experience, including some years at field level, in the areas of NRM with due attention for livelihood improvement and social inclusion.
• Proven experience in managing project funds and in Project Cycle Management
• Up-to-date knowledge of community forestry, utilisation of forest resources and the functioning of the Government sector and non-government agencies in NRM sector
• Understanding of good governance and local governance processes in Nepal
• Excellent command of English and Nepali language, both written and spoken.

• Leadership qualities and team player, sensitive on gender and social inclusion issues
• Very good communication and negotiation skills for working with a large variety of stakeholders
• Flexible and capable of multi-tasking, working under pressure
• Change manager: sensitive in the introduction of changes and capable to deal with sentiments and opposition
• Innovative in changing circumstances and proactive to capture emerging development space.
