Established in 1992 and headquartered in Kathmandu, ANSAB (Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources) is a civil society organization working for the conservation of biodiversity and the improvement of livelihoods across South Asia. It places community empowerment and economic incentives at the heart of its approach, believing that as people benefit from natural resources they become more motivated to protect them – and vice-versa. ANSAB implements a variety of innovative solutions in line with this core conviction, such as the creation of enterprises based on the sustainable use of natural resources, especially Non timber forest products (NTFPs), and the establishment of payment-schemes for environmental services, especially Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, Forest Conservation, Sustainable Management of Forests and Carbon Stock Enhancement (REDD+).

ANSAB is currently seeking dynamic, energetic and career-oriented field based candidates for the ongoing and new projects under its two program areas: Pro-poor Economic Development Program, and Biodiversity, Ecosystem Services and Climate Change Program. Detail of the positions with responsibilities, essential skills and qualifications are as follows:

1. Field Project Coordinator - 1 (Mugu)

Main Responsibilities
• Undertake overall responsibility to coordinate and implement project activities in Mugu, Jumla and Humla districts;
• Build the capacity of staff, local partner NGOs, Business Development Service (BDS) providers, entrepreneurs and beneficiaries through training and facilitation on BDS, Value chain and marketing;
• Conduct value chain assessment of the most promising NTFPs in Karnali region and determine support/services to address the identified constraints;
• Support local communities for preparation of business plan;
• Facilitate local communities and private entrepreneurs to identify, select and establish local and district level value addition enterprises;
• Support to develop linkages of the groups/entrepreneurs/traders to input supplies, service providers and buyers/enterprises (regional and national level buyers) for their product marketing;
• Facilitate buyer seller meetings to address their common interest;
• Conduct forest inventory including NTFPs;
• Provide guidance to CFUGs for revision and amendment of Operational Plans (OPs) for sustainable commercial production and marketing of NTFPs;
• Represent in district level workshop, meeting and discussion to liaison resources for community development especially towards NTFPs based enterprise development;
• Coordinate with district and local level government and civil society organizations to enhance synergy in the project;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
• B. Sc. Forestry with two years of experience, or Masters Degree in any discipline with Intermediate degree in forestry and 5 years of experience;
• In-depth knowledge on NTFP sector of Nepal;
• Good knowledge on organizing community groups, developing business plan and facilitate market linkage of natural products;
• Ability to plan and prioritize work duties as well as work competently under pressure and tight deadlines;
• Proficient in using information technologies and good computer skills, particularly in the use of MS Office Package (MS Word, MS access, MS Excel);
• Fluent in both written and verbal Nepali and English;
• Prior experience in ANSAB or similar nature of organizations and Karnali region would be an advantage.

2. District Project Officer - 1 (Jumla)

Main Responsibilities
• Overall coordination of the project in the district;
• Facilitate local NGOs for organizing local communities;
• Support local communities for preparation of business plan;
• Provide support to Field Coordinator for value chain assessment of the most promising NTFPs;
• Facilitate local communities and private entrepreneurs to establish local and district level processing enterprises;
• Organize NTFP traders and processors into association and network;
• Link local entrepreneurs and traders with local, regional and national level buyers for their product marketing;
• Facilitate buyer seller meetings;
• Conduct forest inventory including NTFPs;
• Provide guidance to CFUGs for revision and amendment of Operational Plans (OPs) for sustainable commercial production and marketing of NTFPs;
• Coordinate with district and local level government and civil society organizations to enhance synergy in the project;
• Support in joint monitoring including line agencies, journalists and media;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in any discipline with Intermediate degree in Forestry and two years of work experience;
• In-depth knowledge on NTFP sector of Nepal;
• Good knowledge on organizing community groups, developing business plan and facilitating market linkage of natural products;
• Ability to plan and prioritize work duties as well as work competently under pressure and tight deadlines;
• Proficient in using information technologies and good computer skills, particularly in the use of MS Office Package (MS Word, MS access, MS Excel);
• Proficient in both written and verbal Nepali and English;
• Knowledge on social survey and community mobilization would be an advantage;
• Prior work experience in Karnali region with ANSAB or similar nature of organizations would be an advantage.

3. Forest Technicians – 3 (Gorkha and Dolakha)

Main Responsibilities
• Support forest officers to establish sample plots to conduct forest inventory;
• Conduct forest survey, resource inventory and data analysis;
• Work closely with related stakeholders in the field and train local people as resource persons for forest resource inventory and sustainable forest management practices;
• Support to organize/conduct stakeholders workshops and meetings;
• Support to prepare periodic project reports;
• Timely updates of the field activities and submit report;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
• I. Sc. Forestry with field experience on forest inventory and boundary survey;
• Willingness to stay in field and passionate to learn and apply the knowledge acquired;
• Knowledge of the GPS application will be preferred;
• Good knowledge on social mobilization would be an advantage;
• Knowledge of social survey and community mobilization would be an advantage;
• Prior work experience in proposed districts with ANSAB or similar nature of organizations would be an advantage.
