A new publication entitled 'Flora and Fauna of Ghodaghodi Lake Area (A Pocket Guide)' has been has been developed and printed with the financial support of The Rufford Small Grants Foundation and The World Bank/Netherlands Partnership Program. This guide is written in Nepali language to make it more user-friendly to local people. 1000 copies have been printed in first edition.
Institute of Forestry Pokhara Campus and Wetland Friends of Nepal are the publishers, and Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation is the supporter. The author team comprises Mr. Gandhiv Kafle and Mr. Jhamak Bahadur Karki whereas review team comprises Prof. Mohan K. Balla, Dr. Hem Sagar Baral, Mr. Raj Kumar Koirala and Mr. Mohan Raj Kafle. This project represents the exciting joint venture of Institute of Forestry, Wetland Friends of Nepal and Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation of Government of Nepal.
The main aim of this guide is to help identification of waterbirds, mammals and vegetation of the lake area. Accordingly, the details of the waterbirds, major mammals and vegetation recorded in the Ghodaghodi Lake Area are presented in the guide with color illustrations. This guide is published in Nepali language to make it understandable and usable to local people. It is expected that this guide will help to local people, students, researchers, teachers, national tourists and visitors, community motivators and environment enthusiasts in obtaining preliminary knowledge of biodiversity of the lake area.
Nepali name, English name, scientific name, distribution and habitat, and characteristics of each species are included in the guide with color illustrations. Importance and use value of each vegetation species is also presented. This guide is divided into six chapters. First chapter includes basic introduction to Ghodaghodi Lake Area. The description and illustrations of waterbirds, mammals and vegetation recorded at the lake area are presented in chapters 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Chapter five includes references and chapter six includes index of Nepali, English and Scientific names of the species.
We are going to disseminate this guide among key stakeholders on the occasion of different conservation events. We are looking for the additional support to translate and print this guide in English language.
