The project aim is to improve livelihoods of the local population through rehabilitation and sustainable use of the Churia forests. Most of Nepal's Churia Forests between the gangetic plain and the hill region are degraded due to overuse and encroachment by the growing population. The ChFDP tries to reverse this development in the districts of Siraha, Saptari and Udayapur by its participatory integrated resources management approach with emphasis on community forestry, off-forest income generation, soil conservation, and promotion of alternative energy.
- To improve the ecological balance of Churia Forests for the benefit of the people in Siraha, Saptari and Udaypur Districts.
- To help Local Governments (LGs), Line Agencies (Las) and Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs) practice integrated and sustainable forest resource management in line with District Periodic Plans.
