Abstract

The distribution, botanical composition and physiognomy of the seven major habitat types in the Royal Suklaphanta Wildlife Reserve in Nepal are described: (1) sal (Shorea robusta) forest; (2) moist riverine forest; (3) Dalbergia sissoo-Acacia catechu association; (4) Imperata cylindrica-dominated short grasslands or phantas; (5) floodplain tall grassland; (6) wooded grassland; and (7) wetlands and marshes. The study revealed that the sal forest occupied the largest area followed by the I. cylindrica-dominated short grassland, while the D. sissoo-A. catechu association covered the least area. The occurrence of wild animals in each habitat type is noted.
