Abstract

This paper reviews the natural and anthropogenic threats to Ramsar sites of Nepal (viz., Beeshazar and associated lakes, Jagadishpur reservoir, Koshi Tappu). These wetlands have great biodiversity as well as socioeconomic values. These Ramsar sites are threatened by eutrophication, erosion and sedimentation, overuse of resources, encroachment, agricultural expansion, population pressure, agricultural runoff, pollution, fishing, overgrazing, drainage and irrigation, and aquatic invasion.
