Abstract

Data were collected from 2 panchayats in E. Nepal on total annual harvest of fodder from trees of 10 species that had already been measured for ht., d.b.h., ht. to crown and crown diam. Twigs and leaves were weighed separately fresh and leaf samples taken to determine dry:fresh wt. ratios. Regressions were calculated of dry leaf production on the 2 crown parameters or on the tree parameters. For 7 of the species (Bauhinia variegeta, B. longifolia, Litsea polyantha, Saurauria nepalensis [Saurauia napaulensis], Ficus semicordata, F. nemoralis and Albizia mollis) correlations were reasonable, although they were better with crown than with tree parameters. Correlations were very poor for the other 3 species (Prunus cerasoides, F. roxburghii and Ficus sp. - rai khaniu). The most productive species were B. longifolia and F. nemoralis.
