The book aims to discuss the links between ecology, development and tourism in the Himalayan region. The first section examines the ecology of the area. Short papers cover this from the aspects of forestry, water energy, wildlife exploitation, and cultural heritage. Part 2 is concerned with development and ecology ranging from the uses of development aid, pest control, women, to prostitution. Part 3 examines tourism and ecology, the impact of tourism on host countries, mountaineering, and the development of tourism in Tibet. A list of journals, organizations, books and films completes the book.
