A book containing 2 sections, the first of which consists of 11 chapters: Introduction; Geography and topography; Geology; Soils; Climate; Vegetation; Plantation policy and planning; Seed; Nurseries; Plantation techniques; and Protection of trees against injuries. In part 2, accounts are given of the occurrence, uses, importance and silvicultural techniques of about 270 individual species arranged alphabetically. The sections on bamboos and on Daphne were written by C.M.A. Stapleton and J.P. Jeanrenaud respectively.
