Nepal Forestry Handbook
Forest is one of the important natural resources in Nepal. Due to the varied Physiological and climatic conditions in the country - from the tropical Terai and the subtropical Siwaliks and the Midland low hills through the temperate High Mountains to the alpine and Nival High Himal -- Nepal possesses more than three dozens distinct forest ecosystems. Proper use and management of the forest wealth could contribute significantly to the social, economic and environmental welfare of the Nepalese people. Being a multidisciplinary applied science, forestry involves both the theoritical and practical understanding of a number of natural, social and managerial sciences. We feel that Nepal Forestry Handbook, as compiled by Dr. Swoyambhu Man Amatya and Mr. Kanhaiya Raj Shrestha, will be very useful to students of forestry including the members of Nepal Foresters Association (NFA) and the Rangers Association of Nepal (RAN). We also believe that this Handbook will enable the policy making bureaucrats and donor agency representatives to appreciate the technical aspects of the Nepalese forests and forestry. This Handbook was originally published in Bangkok by Forestry Research Support Programme for Asia and the Pacific (FORSPA) of FAO. Nepal received a limited number of copies which were released and distributed on the occasion of the forest based product exhibition of NFA at Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu, in December 2002. The book was not priced then. Due to the high demand from the Nepalese forestry professionals and technicians NFA sought for and obtained the permission from the original publisher, through the authors, to reprint in adequate numbers within the country itself.
