Community Forestry in Changing Context: Emerging Market Opportunities and Tenure Rights
This report identifies the challenges for Nepal’s community forestry in responding to the changing livelihoods and emerging market opportunities. Whilst community forestry has been regarded as a radical programme with its early inception during the 1980s, it has not been adequately adaptive to the changing contexts of the recent years. Instead, the state has maintained control over the productive forests and lands in order to secure revenue and to meet the vested interests of the ruling elites.

New special issue of Journal of Forest and Livelihood is now available online. The issue Vol. 8(2) focuses on experiences from DFID's Livelihoods & Forestry Programme (LFP). Journal of Forest and Livelihood is a peer-reviewed journal published by ForestAction Nepal. The purpose of the journal is to document and disseminate the insights, lessons and innovations arising from various dimensions of forestry and rural livelihoods in Nepal.
Democratizing Terai Forestry Governance: Emerging Innovations in the Western Terai Region of Nepal
The potential of the Terai forest resource has been well cited. With a goal of realising that enormous potential, the Government of Nepal has given special attention to Terai forests with a range of policies and different scientific management regimes. Though the government has high intensions, neither the policies nor the management efforts have been successful in producing the intended outcomes. In fact they have rarely been translated into action.
Facilitating Transition from Passive to Active Management of Community Forests in Nepal: Lessons from Livelihoods and Forestry Programme
This paper demonstrates that a transition from passive to active and equitable management of community forest is possible by adopting joint learning processes among local forest user groups, forest officials and local non-governmental service providers.
