Department of Forest Research and Survey of HMG Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation is responsible for carrying out National Forest Inventories in Nepal.
Two national forest inventories have been conducted so far:
- First National Inventory (1963-1967): carried out in technical collaboration with USAID
- Second National Inventory (1989-1996): carried out in technical collaboration with Finnish Government
