Sagarnath Forest Development Project

The Sagarnath forest development project started in 1980 with the aim of planting fast growing species in Bhabar Tarai, Central Nepal, by replacing the natural forests of Shorea robusta. The project covers areas of Sarlahi, Mahottari and Rautahat districts, with about 11,000 ha under plantation and the rest under natural forest.

The main species planted are Eucalyptus sp (60%), Tectona grandis, Dalbergia sissoo, Dalbergia latifolia, Ceiba pentandra, Albizia species (about 40%). The project is now managed under Forest Products Development Board (FPDB).
