Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal

Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN) is a national representative body of community forest user groups of the country. It is an autonomous, independent, non-ethnic, non-political, non-governmental and non-profit and a purely social organization. The Federation has its own mission and objectives.

The mission of the Federation is to inculcate self-reliance and strength among [[forest user groups]] through promoting their involvement in decision-making processes on the basis of participation en masse. The objectives of the Federation include:

  • To foster sharing of experiences by extending cooperation and goodwill among the community forest users as recognized by the Ministry of Forests of His Majesty's Government and to develop interrelationship among groups, and central FECOFUN and such groups;
  • To coordinate with different government and non-government organizations;
  • To promote awareness among user groups to carryout programs relating to plantation, health, and sanitation and so forth so as to maintain a balanced environment;
  • To draw attention of policy level authorities towards rectifying upon operational pitfalls existent in prevailing policy and laws,
  • To contribute to creating awareness on prevailing forest policy and laws among groups, to developing a sense of collective action and fostering dynamism in forest management techniques and other forest development initiatives in a process of securing the high interests and welfare of community forest users;
  • To support conducting income generating activities through cooperation and enhancement through demonstration or on-site research initiatives;

To support other activities in the interest and capacities of user groups so as to contribute to the perpetuation and consolidation of community forestry processes.
