Upper Temperate Forest

Altitudes about 2700-3100 m in the west and centre, and 2400-2800 m in the east.
(a) Quercus semecarpifolia forest:
It tends to be  more prevalent on south-facing slopes. Rhododendron arboreum and Ilex dipyrena are common understorey species.
(b) Upper temperate mixed broadleaved forest:
It is very mixed in composition: Acer spp and Rhododendron arboreum are common throughout and Lauraceae are common understorey trees.
(c) Rhododendron forest: Rhododendron arboreum, R. barbatum, R. grande and R. falconeri are typical of this type of forest.
(d) Upper temperate coniferous forest:
In this type Pinus wallichiana is diatributed throughout, almost pure but sometimes associated with Abies pindrow, Picea smithiana, Cedrus deodara, Juniperus indica, Taxua baccata etc.
