Abstract

A comparative analysis of intercropping is presented, based on extensive field studies in Jamaica, Nepal and India. After an initial chapter discussing the nature of intercropping, the next 3 chapters describe intercropping practices in the above 3 countries. Two short final chapters consider the effects of cropping systems on soil fertility, and the social and economic implications of agricultural practices. An appendix lists land equivalent ratios of a wide range of intercropping systems, based on several hundred field experiments.
