| Abstract | This paper summarizes the results of empirical research projects in northern Thailand, which serve as a background to current political debates on forests, and the impacts of upland agriculture on water shortages, soil erosion and forests. It also assesses the experience of Nepal as a guide to analysing deforestation in Thailand. |
