| Abstract | This journal issue looks at the development of the farmer field school (FFS) concept beyond integrated pest management (IPM) and into a seemingly limitless realm of possibilities for assisting and educating farmers. Specific topics addressed include: the fundamental elements of a farmer field school; FFSs and participatory technology development; field schools for Kenyan dairy farmers; farmer life schools in Cambodia; community forest management and FFSs in Nepal; evaluation of the FFS cycle in Peru; the impact of FFSs for IPM in Indonesia; the Egyptian experience with FFSs; extension through self-help groups in India; gender field school experiments in Indonesia; innovations for financially sustainable FFSs; and FFSs for tree crops. This issue consists of an editorial and 12 articles based on the papers presented at the workshop "Farmers Field Schools - Emerging Issues and Challenges", which was held in Indonesia in October 2002. |
