AbstractA large amount of the forest area of Indonesia has been converted to other uses. Most of the area of fertile agriculture has been converted also to other uses such as housing and industries. Therefore, the area for water conservation, food production and wood production decrease every year. Synergism among forest trees and food crops and others through mycorrhiza symbiosis should be an important consideration. Silviculture of mixed forest trees and Cassava , for example, could be used to reduce the spread of alang-alang and at the same time could produce food.
