| Abstract | The story of the role of the Federation of Community Forestry Users in Nepal (FECOFUN) in working to keep the Bara Forest for the people of the area is well known, but the role played by the Forests, Trees and People (FTP) network as a platform for community forestry in supporting communication and linking people working with such issues is less well known. This paper gives an account of that role. It describes both the routine communication work, and the emergent networking developed by FTP in the context of the Operational Forest Management Plan for Bara District drawn up by Enso, a forestry consultant company hired by FINNIDA and the Nepal Ministry of Finance. The communication facilitated by FTP between the different interest groups resulted in a dropping of the Enso plan, and development of a new project which aimed to facilitate conflict resolution and promote community forestry. |
