Wildlife plays an important role in the epidemiology of laptospisosis. Continuing search for sources of infection for domestic animals and man has revealed an expanding host range in wild life belonging to five orders of animal kingdom, namely Rodentia, Lagomorpha, Insectivora, Chiroptera and Artiodactyla.

Leptospirosis is prevalent in domestic livestock and human populations in the country. However, little work has been done to survey leptospiral infection in the wild and therefore, no published information on its prevalence among the wild life species.
