| Abstract | Orchids are one of the largest groups of flowering plants found in Nepal with about 361 species under 96 genera. Some of these species have high ornamental value and some are important medicinal plants. In many parts of Nepal orchids are getting scarce and rare due to heavy collection of these plants as well as habitat destruction. The purpose of this paper is to show the diversity of the Nepalese orchids, their exploitation and need for their conservation. The paper will highlight the orchids found in different climatic regions and some orchid rich areas in Nepal. |
