| Abstract | The paper describes the development of permaculture in Nepal through the Jajarkot Permaculture Programme (JJP). Started in 1986, the JJP has now grown from one acre of land to over 50 villages in four districts, employing some 120 staff and having 12000 members. It is designed as a mature innovative approach to participatory community-based development for sustainable land use. The paper examines aspects of the programme, including: the farmer to farmer aspects of training; the benefits of agroforestry; the technical approach of the project; and revitalizing traditions. |
