AbstractA serious threat has occurred to the D. sissoo plantations in Nepal. An early study reported that D. sissoo trees of varying ages, especially those planted on/or along rice fields, were dying. Of the major reasons for such death of trees, neither fungal attack on leaves nor defoliating insects had much significance. It seemed, it was either due to stem and root borers, and/or fungal attack in D. sissoo roots. A number of insects were also reported to be one of the various reasons of the top-dying. In another study conducted during 1998-99, results revealed that the trees of D. sissoo has been seriously attacked by the fungi Ganoderma lucidum, Fusarium solani and bacteria. Suggested recommendations for the control of dieback are presented.
