| Abstract | Qualitative and quantitative information was collected using survey tools such as household surveys, interview with members of Forest User Groups (FUGs) and office records of FUGs, to compare the present harvest level of forest products with the growing stock and sustainable yield in four Community Forests (CF) in Lalitpur District in the Central Development Region of Nepal. The constitution and forest management plan of FUGs were reviewed and forest inventory was carried out for biomass and annual yield estimations. The most important products were firewood (44% of the total volume collected), bedding material (40%) and fodder (15%). The overall average biomass/ha of the sampled CFs was 70 tonnes/ha with overall average regeneration of 5571 seedlings/ha. Results indicated that FUGs were harvesting only approximately 50% of forest products compared to actual and possible annual yield. |
