| Abstract | Intensive agriculture, conversion of marginal land to arable land and overuse of forest and grazing land for feed, fuelwood and litter collection created widespread soil fertility problems. Changes in soil management such as decreased biomass removal, incorporation of green manures, plantation of N fixing trees and inclusion of legumes in crop rotations are some of the immediate requirements to sustain soil fertility. |
