Abstract:

About two-third people in the world live in rural areas, most in so-called "developing nations". Nepal is not exceptional from this fact. They have one striking feature in common; they are largely disconnected from the resources that contribute to human well being. Community Forestry (CF) as the largest decentralized program is dealing with the poverty reduction issue strongly; however, the main nutritious source of rural poor i.e. wild food is neglected by the management practices. Exclusion of these species from the CF management practices is leading towards excessive harvesting, consequence depletion. Lack of knowledge among the CF practitioners and ignorance of these species as a food of poor may be the cause of their elimination.
