<p>Data are presented from the Tistung trial plots in the Mahabharat Range, Nepal, on pruning and thinning yields, and biomass production at 4.5 yr old. A comparison of the relative productivity of <em>P. patula </em>and of <em>Pinus roxburghii </em>(from Indian data) indicated that <em>P. patula </em>is much faster growing. The possibility of silvopastoral management is discussed, i. e. using fairly heavy thinning and pruning to promote the growth of natural understorey species and grasses.</p>
