This study collects and reviews the available information on indigenous forest management in Nepal. Forest management practices are grouped according to protection practices, harvesting practices, distribution practices and planting practices. Organizational aspects are grouped according to who manages the forests, how they are managed and why. The study recommends that more research be conducted in various geographic locations, especially outside the Middle Hills where most existing studies are concentrated. Additionally, analyses are required of the social, economic, political and biophysical conditions in which indigenous forest management exists.
