District Forest Office, Sarlahi has been endeavored to promote NTFPs domestication in the district to reduce rural poverty since 2004. With the successful implementation of NTFPs programme with the popular participation of all the stakeholders, the DFO has been successful in contributing rural employment and reducing forest offences. Lots of practical experiences and local level innovations have been emerged as the results of programme implementation. Lack of appropriate technology, insufficient investment and markets have been some obstacles observed. Establishment and proper running of cooperative, networking and establishment of small scale enterprises are seemed as viable means to tackle problems and provide maximum benefits to users.

This is the report based on my personal experiences working as the forester in the district forest office.
