Title:

Split Root Experiment with the Poplar

Authors:

Rajendra K.C.

The split root experiment was conducted to know the translocation mechanism, more specifically the identifying the distribution of 32P, in Gray Poplar (Populus × canescens). The experiment was conducted in two species of Poplar, one was P.× canescens and another was Populus euphratica (But, I used only P.× canescens in my study). P.× canescens is the salt sensitive whereas P. euphratica is the salt tolerant species. These two species might have different physiological responses towards the salt. Excess salt may have adverse consequences to the plant due to the increased osmotic pressure, unfavourable changes in pH and unbalancing the proportion of various ions.
