| Abstract | Roles and relationships between systems thinking, participatory methodologies and local knowledge were studied. Formal methods of knowledge acquisition in three contrasting agroecological environments in Nepal (tree fodder), Sri Lanka (multilayered tree gardens) and Kenya (fruit tree management) are presented and the usefulness of the approach in different circumstances are compared. |
