The Fifth National Conference on Science and Technology

Nepal Academy of Science and Technology is an autonomous statutory body established with a mandate to work for the promotion and development of Science and Technology in the country. As an apex body of its kind for Science and Technology, it has the statutory obligation in providing a forum for all scientists and technologists working in different institutions of the country. One of such fora has been the congress of all scientists held usually in the interval of every four years. These congresses, which have been termed as 'National Conferences', have provided an opportunity for Scientists and Technologists from all disciplines to present not only their research findings but also share their experiences and views on the national policy on Science and Technology its relevance for the development of the country. The Nepal Academy of Science & Technology had the privilege of organizing four such national conferences already one being in 2004. In keeping with this tradition, the Academy is pleased to make the announcement of organizing the Fifth National Conference on Science and Technology in November 2008.

The theme of the fifth conference will be "Science, Technology and Innovation for Prosperous Nepal". The knowledge of Science and Technology can not be applied in different situations without innovations. The Process of innovation is imperative even for the transfer and adoption of the known technology from other countries. It is therefore expected that a debate on the above theme of the conference will further the cause of realizing national priority for Science, Technology and innovation for the development of the country.

The scientific program of the conference will include invited key note addresses, plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations. Parallel sessions will be held for paper presentations as catagorized in the following disciplinary areas.

All those who wish to participate in the conference are required to register. The registration fee includes the cost of documents and refreshment provided during the conference. The fees for registration will be as follows.

Participants are requested to send the abstract of their presentations to NAST in the prescribed format (see example below) along with the pre-registration form attached with this brochure by September 28, 2025 (Aswin 12 2065). The abstract not exceeding 250 words should be submitted in a camera-ready form (preferably in laser print) as well as in electronic version. If there are several authors the name of the presenting author should be underlined. The abstract will be reviewed by the technical committee which reserve the right to edit, accept or reject it.

For poster presentation a label should be prepared on the top of the poster space indicating its title, authors and affiliations. A copy of abstract should be in the upper left-hand corner of the poster board. Charts, drawings, and illustrations should be presented in the form that can be used for publication. Hand-written drawings are not permitted. Text should be printed in a type face of appropriate size. Authors must be present at the site of their respective posters during the display. Only the abstracts of the papers presented in the conference will be published in the proceedings. The authors are free to submit the full papers presented in the conference to any Journal of his/her choice for publication. In this context, it may be informed that Nepal Journal of Science and Technology is regular published by NAST.

Laser Absorption in Plasma By Inverse Bremsstrahlung

The absorption of Laser beams by plasma by via inverse Bremsstrahlung has been studied using fluid model. It is observed that the absorption of incident laser beam by plasma depends on various plasma and laser parameters. The absorption coefficient (8), which depends on atomic number (?),laser wave length (?) and electron-ion collisional frequency (V) has been derived and its variation with those parameters have been discussed. Our results are in good agreement with expected theoretical ones.
