The Aquatic Ecology Centre, Kathmandu University, and the Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric), University of Life Sciences, Norway, in collaboration with the Nepal Agroforestry Foundation, Forest Action Nepal and Department of Forest Research and Survey, invite papers and posters from scholars and researchers to be presented at the International Conference on “Forests, Soils and Rural Livelihoods in a Changing Global Context” to be held in Dhulikhel, Kave, Nepal, during September 28-30, 2014. The conference is an outcome of the Norwegian Research Council supported project “Forest and Soil Restoration and Land Use Change Impacts on Carbon Pools and Fluxes in the Himalaya: Research and Capacity Building in Nepal, (FORESC), which investigated different land use and forest management effects on soil and biomass carbon stocks as well as implications for local livelihoods.

Papers and posters are called for presentation under following thematic areas:

• Forest/land degradation and restoration
• Governance and management of natural resources
• Remote sensing and geospatial approach to carbon quantification
• Ecosystem services and biodiversity
• Community/agro-forestry and livelihood security
• Watershed resources monitoring and conservation

The following important dates and deadlines have been tentatively set for submission of abstracts, registration forms and full papers:

1. Deadline for submission of abstract: May 31, 2025
2. Early registration final date: July 31, 2025
3. Submission of full papers: September 15, 2025
4. On-site registration for symposium: September 27, 2025
