ZSL is looking for 2 Research Interns to work on a project implementing a National Red List of India and Nepal. National and Regional Red Lists use the reputed IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM method, providing the most practical means of assessing species status and translating this information into national policies to create effective, sustainable conservation solutions.
We are seeking 2 volunteer interns for a period of 8 months starting from June 2009. The posts are full time and will be based for around 5 months in the Conservation Programme offices at ZSL, and 3 months in India or Nepal. The positions will involve working with scientists in India/Nepal to gather information and data on native mammal species, assisting with Red List workshops and helping to produce India/Nepal Regional Red List publications.
Candidates must have an undergraduate degree or above in biology, zoology, conservation or environmental science. They should have strong communication, research and analytical skills and be IT proficient. As the ideal candidates will be living in India or Nepal for 3 months, they must be self-motivated, dynamic and independent. Experience of living/working in a foreign country (especially in Asia) would be an advantage.
These positions are voluntary; however, ZSL will reimburse lunch and travel costs within the Greater London area whilst in the London offices. A return flight to India/Nepal will be provided and all in-country project related costs will be covered, including accommodation, food and travel. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with some of the worlds leading conservation researchers.
