National Forest Resource Assessment (FRA) Project in Nepal invites application from suitably qualified experts having regional expertise, for the position of :

Regional Senior Data Management Adviser

The successful candidate will work directly with the Chief Technical Adviser of the FRA Nepal project is implemented under the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MFSC) and the Department of Forest Research and Survey is the executing organization.

The FRA Nepal Project is a bilateral co-operation between Governments of Nepal and Finland for next five years (2010-2014) to conduct the Forest Resource Assessment over the whole country. Key objectives of the FRA project are: strengthening institutional capacity building, maintaining forestry sector information systems, and data sharing among the forestry organizations. The FRA Project will assess the data needs through wider interaction from the forestry stakeholders. National level baseline data collection will be carried out by using Remote Sensing technology and ground based sampling. Moreover, new global issues such as Climate Change, Global Forest Resource Assessment and the REDD process are gaining more importance and they demand update forest cover map and carbon-sequestration related data to reveal change in extent of forest and biomass. The project will facilitate to generate such stipulated datasets at national level.

Regional Senior Data Management Adviser is in charge of organizing collaboration between organisations contributing to the FRA Nepal Project ("data partners"), data sharing protocol development and data collection campaigns. S/he will organize a formal agreement between organisation that are sharing forest-related data for joint-use purposes between partners. S/he will plan, define and negotiate how data is being shared and sets out the principles and commitments between organizations to adopt compatible procedures in collecting, storing and disclosing data for joint-use purposes between partners.
