Forest protection consists of a series of activities that support one or more of the following objectives:

• Maximize production of sound wood
• Minimize negative effects of soil disturbance (compaction, erosion)
• Preserve appropriate wildlife habitat.
• Maintain an attractive forest environment
• Forest diseases cause more losses annually than either fires or insects
