| Abstract | This species is a multipurpose legume and medicinal plant distributed in the plains and foothills of northwest Himalaya to Nepal Himalaya and is facing a high risk of extinction due to habitat loss and indiscriminate exploitation by local people for its fuel and fodder values. Phenological observations on 4 plants collected from its type locality in 1993 revealed a poor and low percentage of fruit and seed set. Mean fruit set after 30 days of pollination was 56.7% while fruit retention after 50 days of pollination averaged 21.4%. The fragmented and isolated nature of wild populations has affected cross pollination resulting in a loss of genetic diversity. |
