Exploitation of non-timber forest products by youths was carried out in selected communities of Shasha forest reserves in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State. Data were collected with the aid of structured interviewed schedule from 120 respondents in 10 rural communities. Analyses of data involved the use of descriptive statistics like frequency counts, mean, percentages, while correlation was used to show the relationship between dependent and independent variables of the study. The result shows that 61.7 percent of the respondents were male while 38.3 percent were female. The study also shows that majority of the respondents exploited medicinal plants and food products and spices that were necessary in meeting their livelihood, even though they have negative disposition towards the exploitation of the Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) as they do not see it as a means of livelihood. There is significant correlation between level of exploitation of NTPFs and some socio-economic characteristics of the respondents such as age (r = 0.21) and marital status (r = 0.249). There is also significant correlation between level of exploitation of NTPFs and respondents perception (r = 0.39). These findings show that age, marital status and the respondents’ perception have positive influence on the exploitation of the NTPFs.
